Easton’s Winter Mart Opens This Saturday!

Earl the Accordionist will be playing again at Easton's Winter Mart, opening this weekend.

One of the brightest spots in Easton’s slow revitalization over the last several years has been the Easton Farmers’ Market–the oldest open-air market in the United States. It is a key hub of Easton’s social culture, and it’s always a little sad for the community at the end of the season when the Market closes. Ten years ago, the market had dwindled to just a single vendor in Easton’s Center Square, but thanks to the efforts of Megan McBride, and a slew of volunteers, the Market has rebounded into a robust weekly event every Saturday from Spring through Fall, drawing together hundreds of residents, and a balanced offering of local farmers from the region.

Last year during the holiday season, the Easton Farmers’ Market presented a trial run of an indoor winter market–something fans of the Market have been wanting for years–a way to keep it going all year round. The Holiday Mart was popular, and gave the Market and local vendors faith that a winter market could be supported throughout the winter in Easton.

Now, thanks to the partnership of the Nurture Nature Center at 518 Northampton Street, the Winter Mart has a permanent home, and will have its “soft opening” this Saturday, Nov. 24th, at 10am.

In addition to fresh vegetables from local farms, jarred products from favorite local vendors like Easton Salsa, fresh baked goods and arts and crafts, the Winter Mart will be serving Cosmic Cup coffee, and in case you’re wondering–YES–Earl the Accordianist (above) will be playing at the door again!
